DoE fines factories, washing plant Tk 5 lakh

The Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined two plywood board factories and a garment washing plant Tk 5 lakh for polluting the environment.
The DoE fined Rajdhani Board Mill and Modern Board Mill Tk 2 lakh each and Soima Washing Plant Tk 1 lakh after summoning the owners and representatives.
The adjoining mills at Pulkini, Pulpar in Fatullah of Narayanganj were operating without any DoE environment clearance certificate while the Narayanganj plant did not have any effluent treatment plant.
The owners admitted to the crime and assured of taking remedial steps, says a DoE press release. The owners could not be immediately reached for comment.
