Dhaka, Thimphu ink deal for cooperation
In a bid to further strengthen bilateral relations, Bangladesh and Bhutan yesterday inked a deal to establish a formal institutional mechanism to hold regular consultations for exploring new avenues of cooperation.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Consultation was signed by Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque and Bhutanese Foreign Secretary Yeshey Dorji at state guesthouse Meghna in the capital.
The foreign secretary of Bhutan is leading a four-member delegation on a three-day visit to Bangladesh at the invitation of his Bangladeshi counterpart to attend the first Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) scheduled to be held today at the foreign ministry.
Officials said the MoU will put in place a formal institutional mechanism to follow up, through regular consultations by the foreign secretaries, on the decisions taken at high level political exchanges that have taken place over the recent years.
According to a foreign ministry press release it (MoU) would facilitate exchange of views on bilateral matters including political, trade and economic, cultural and educational cooperation, people-to-people contact as well as regional and international issues.
