Dhaka games suspended
The matches of the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League which were scheduled in Dhaka from tomorrow, will remain suspended for the next 18 days due to unavailability of Bangabandhu National Stadium and Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium, both of which will host some events of the Bangladesh Games.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the Professional Football League Committee yesterday.
Bangladesh Games are scheduled to be held in Dhaka from April 20 to 28, but the Bangabandhu National Stadium will not be available even before the start of the Games due to preparation for the opening ceremony while Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium will host the final round of the football event.
The professional football league got underway on Sunday after a 40-day break following Bangladesh's engagement in the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers and Independence Cup that ended on April 2.
Two matches – Mohammedan versus Muktijoddha Sangsad and Sheikh Russel versus Arambagh – will be held today while three matches outside Dhaka will take place on April 13, 18 and 19 in Feni.
The committee also decided to start the Super Cup in middle of May.
