Noor Uddin opens Technomart-3

Demand for bio gas plants increased greatly

A three-day science and technology fair 'Technomart-3', organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology began at the premises of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) yesterday, reports BSS.

Technologies, processes and products developed by different organisations under the Ministry of Science and Technology are on display in the Technomart-3 fair.

Besides, the entrepreneurs who took lease of different industrial processes developed by the research organisations also put up stalls for display and sale of their products.

The fair will remain open for the public from 10 am to 7 pm each day.

Inaugurating the fair Science and Technology Minister Lt. General (Retd) Muhammad Noor Uddin Khan gave emphasis on organising such a fair in different areas of the country to facilitate exchange of views and ideas among scientists, entrepreneurs and the general public.

He said demand for bio gas plants developed by the BSCIR has increased greatly in the rural areas which can use poultry litter along with bio mass for production of gas.

Science Secretary M Fazlur Rahman, in his speech, said that the country at present spends less that than 0.5 per cent of GDP for science and technology. He said the government is gradually increasing the spending with as objective to increase it to 1 to 2 per cent of GDP.

He said investment of more resources is necessary for creation of the critical mass of manpower and equipment for research and development in different fields of sciences.

Referring to the drawbook of scientists in Bangladesh not patenting their innovations, he said the scientists must have a target for marketing their products and processes for which the process of patent is essential.
