Deadline extended till June 20
Households using gas illegally now will have until June 20 to make declaration about their unlawful connections as Petrobangla on Tuesday extended the deadline following poor response.
On May 14, Petrobangla began the process to legalise over 150,000 illegal connections a week after the government lifted a three-year ban on providing new gas link to households.
"But as of Monday, only 9,455 households have declared that they are using gas illegally," Hossain Monsur, chairman of the state-run agency, said at a press conference in his office in the capital.
"If anybody fails to make declaration by the extended deadline but continues to use gas, he or she would face legal actions," he said.
The initial deadline was scheduled to end on May 30.
Monsur said households would have to pay Tk 6,750 for a double burner cooking stove to legalise their connection.
