Ctg port back to full life after hartal
The volume of activities at Chittagong Port marked a sharp increase in the last two days after the end of the opposition's 36-hour countrywide shutdown Thursday.
Activities like loading, unloading and delivery of goods are going on in full swing at all jetties, said Syed Farhad Uddin Ahmed, secretary of Chittagong Port Authority. He said importers were in a rush to receive their goods and also to make up the lost time.
According to CPA office data, only over 400 TEUs (twenty equivalent units) of import containers could be delivered from the port in 24 hours till 8:00am Thursday during the hartal, while the figure jumped to 2,520 TEUs in the same period till Friday. Delivery of 1942 TEUs was recorded in the same period till 8:00am yesterday.
The importers, however, were being forced to overpay in transport fares due to the rush.
