2 villagers gunned down in Kushtia
Unidentified criminals gunned down two villagers in Khoksa upazila of Kushtia Sunday night.
Ten more locals also sustained injuries during the firing.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taleb,55, and Sariful Islam, 45.
Three people have been rounded up from different places of Khoksa upazila for their suspected link with the killings, reported our correspondent quoting Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, superintendent of police in Kushtia.
The incident occurred around 11:30pm when 10 to 12 members of “Bapi group” led by Bapi tried to kidnap Ramjan Sardar, a local business, at gunpoint.
The criminals tried to kidnap the businessman as he had denied to give them Tk 2 lakh as extortion, the Kushtia police chief said.
When Ramjan’s family members cried for help, the villagers came to their rescue and cordoned off the goons.
Sensing danger, the attackers opened fire on the locals indiscriminately, leaving the two dead and 10 bullet-hit, he added.
On information, Khoksa police rushed to the spot and whisked the injured to Kushtia Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
