'Criminal' killed in Narail 'shootout'
A suspected criminal was killed in a 'shootout' with Rapid Action Battalion members in Narail Sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Parvez alias Rashed, 30, son of Jabed Hossain of Junglegram village in the upazila, reports our Narail correspondent.
Parvez, a listed criminal, was accused in several cases filed with Narail and Jessore police stations, said Maj ABM Azizul Karim, commanding officer of Rab-6.
Karim said a team of Rab-6 raided the helipad area at Kurigram village around 2:00am after receiving information that five to six criminals gathered there for committing a crime.
Sensing their presence, the criminals opened fire at the Rab team forcing them to fire back, triggering a 'gunfight'.
Parvez was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, he said.
Rab recovered two pistols, one shot gun, five bullets and a bottle of phensidyl from the spot, he added.
