Two to die for murder
Two men were sentenced to death yesterday for separate incidents of murder in Thakurgaon and Sunamganj .
Thakurgaon Additional District and Sessions Judge ABM Tariqul Kabir awarded death penalty to Musa Ali, 28, son of late Jel Haque of Laututhi village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, reports our correspondent.
According to the prosecution, Jel Haque donated 20 decimal of land to his grandson Monsur Ali, 11, before his death. Monsur was Musa's son.
After Jel Haque's death, Musa started putting pressure on Monsur to register the land in his (Musa's) name.
As Monsur refused, Musa strangled Monsur to death on November 18 in 2012.
The following day, Musa's elder brother Md Fazal Haque filed a case with Thakurgaon Police Station accusing Musa.
Our Moulvibazar correspondent reports: A Sunamganj court yesterday awarded death sentence to Idris Ali, 28, son of late Abdul Hakim of Lalpur village in Sunamganj Sadar upazila, and life imprisonment to his brother Babul Mia, 23, in a murder case filed in 2010.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdullah Al Mamun handed down the verdict, said Assistant Public Prosecutor Sohel Ahmed. The judge acquitted Nazrul Islam.
According to the prosecution, Nawab Mia's sister Monowara was married to Idris' brother Siddique Mia of Lalpur village in Sadar upazila and Siddique's family started torturing her for dowry.
On August 27 in 2010, Idris and his men hacked Monowara's brother Abdul Karim to death and Nawab filed a case with Sunamganj Police Station the same night .
