Mother gives statement
Rina Begum, who gave birth to a baby outside Phulbari Upazila Health Complex in the district after being denied admission on Sunday, went there yesterday for giving statement before the high powered probe committee formed by Directorate General of Health Services.
Dr Mostafizur Rahman, director of its Rangpur Divisional Office, is the head of the three-member body comprising Dr Abu Zafor, deputy director, and Dr Mahbubur Rahman, assistant director of the office.
Rina Begum, 33, wife of Abu Taher of Bashpukur village in Phulbari, came to the upazila health complex by an ambulance with her two-day-old girl at around 11:15am.
After giving her statement before the probe committee, she left the health complex around 2:40pm by the same ambulance.
Around 5:30am on Sunday, Abu Taher took his wife on his rickshaw-van to the upazila health complex when she felt labour pain at home.
But, two nurses of the health complex refused to admit the woman and told Taher to take her to a private hospital.
Rina gave birth to her child under a tree at the health complex compound around 6:00am.
Earlier on Monday, two other committees were formed to investigate the incident.
Locals formed a human chain in front of Phulbari Upazila Health Complex and Nimtola area of Phulbari upazila town yesterday demanding punishment of the nurses responsible for the inhuman incident.
