2 held for cheating
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Saturday arrested two people on charge of cheating people in the name of giving jobs in Bangladesh army.
The arrestees are Shahinur Rahman, 27, a former army man (dismissed from job), hailing from Budhirpara village in Mirzapur upazila, and Shamim Al Mamun, 35, of Khash Shahjani village in Nagarpur upazila.
Major Rabiul Islam, commander of crime prevention company-3 of Rab-12, at a press briefing said acting on a tip off, Rab members arrested them from the house of one Abu Hanif of Charpara village in Tangail Sadar upazila.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, another cheat, however, managed to flee the scene, he said.
The elite force also seized a fake ID card of Bangladesh Army, fake appointment letter of the army, fake leave certificate from the army, blank checks of Trust Bank Ltd and Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd and two mobile phone sets from the possession of the arrestees, said the major.
During interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they are active members of a job cheating ring led by Liton, another cheat, who escaped from the drive.
