100-year-old blackstone idol seized
Police yesterday seized a 100-year-old blackstone idol from two people at Burichang upazila and detained them.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Yeasin conducted a drive in Kalikapur bazar under Bakshimul union and arrested the two. Police sent them to jail through a court after filing a case.
The arrestees are Mohammad Masum, 25, son of Shamsul Haque, and Shahin, 34, son of Abu Siddik, both from Bishnopur of Debidwar upazila.
The idol weighs eight kg and is one foot high. Its market price is around Tk 2.5 crore.
Masum and Shahin confessed that they brought the idol from Kashba in Brahmanbaria to smuggle to India.
