AL councillor attacked by rivals in Gaibandha
A ward councillor was hacked allegedly by his rivals in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha on Thursday night, said police.
A group of youths attacked Saju Sarder, 32, councillor of ward-3 in Sundarganj municipality, with sharp weapons when he reached near Chachia Mirganj Model High school. Soon after that, they fled the scene, said police.
With injuries to different parts of his body, Saju, also a member of the upazila Awami League, was taken to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex from where he was transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said police.
Sundarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Abdus Sobhan quoted his family as saying that there has been a conflict between the ward councillor and the upazila Jubo League leaders over establishing supremacy.
Such conflict might have led to the attack, said the OC.
Jamaluddin Sarder, uncle of Saju, filed a case against unnamed persons with the police station.
