Verdict on former AL leader any day
International Crimes Tribunal-1 will deliver its verdict any day in a case filed against two persons including a former Awami League leader for allegedly committing crimes during the Liberation War.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam yesterday kept the verdict waiting for delivery after the prosecution and the defence completed their closing arguments, Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman said.
The accused Liakat Ali, 61, former president of Lakhai upazila unit AL and Aminul Islam alias Rajab Ali, 62, of Kishoreganj are on the run. They are facing seven charges.
In the closing arguments, Prosecutor Rana Dasgupta prayed to the court to hand down capital punishment for the accused saying that they have been able to prove all charges, while state-appointed defence counsel Gazi MH Tamim sought acquittal of the duo.
