Schoolgirl stabbed by stalker
A school girl was stabbed allegedly by a stalker in Baghmara area of Mymensingh town on Saturday, police said.
The victim was identified as Sumaiya Akter Sinthi, an eighth-grader of Mukul Niketan High School.
She is undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), police said quoting family members.
The victim's father Faruq Ahmed alleged that their neighbour Sajjad Hossain, 20, had been romatically pursuing Sinthi for last two years.
“Sinthi notified us about the matter and I met Sajjad's father several times and asked him to stop his son, but no initiatives were taken in this regard”, alleged Faruq.
The girl was stabbed while on her way home from tuition classes on Sunday afternoon, police said.
Sajjad pressed his proposal again and as she denied, he pulled her scarf, Faruq said quoting his daughter.
Hearing her scream, Sinthi's elder brother Kawser, a tenth-grader at the same school, rushed to the spot, to save his sister.
He was also beaten up by Sajjad and his relatives, Faruq said.
When the girl was running away from the spot Sajjad stabbed on her back and fled the scene, alleged the father.
Faruq lodged a case accusing four persons - Sajjad, his father and brothers-in-law.
Police arrested the three except for Sajjad, the prime accused, said Khandaker Shaker Ahmed, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station.
