Road accidents kill 7, injure 36
Six people were killed and 36 others injured in road accidents in three districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Comilla, two people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan hit a roadside tree and fell into a ditch beside Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Zinglatoli area of Daudkandi upazilla yesterday.
The deceased are Jamal Uddin, 30, son of Mojammel Hossain from Bogra; and Yeasin, son of Mojaher Uddin from Chittagong, said Sub-inspector Nakib Uddin of Daudkandi Highway Police Station.
In another accident, a bus of the same company fell into a ditch beside the highway in Roypur area of the upazilla yesterday, leaving 10 people injured, said police.
All the injured were taken to different hospitals.
In yet another incident, a motorcyclist died as his motorbike hit a roadside tree in Narayanpur area of Chauddagram upazila.
The deceased -- Parvez, 18, son of Sukkur Mia -- was from Dhormopur area in the upazila.
In Faridpur, Khadiza Begum, 45, wife of Asad Mia of Piarpur village in Sadar upazila, died as a microbus ran her over while she was crossing a road in Munshi Bazar area.
Meanwhile, a bus of Comfort Line collided head-on with a three-wheeler in Hashandi area, leaving Shamim Sheikh, 30, dead and six others injured.
The injured were admitted to a hospital, said police.
In Rajshahi, a man and his grandson were killed as a speeding battery-run auto-rickshaw carrying them came apart in the city's Katakhali area.
Some of the broken parts of the vehicle pierced the bodies of Nazim Uddin, 52, and Arafat Hossain, 4, said Katakhali police.
