Rab arrests police officer with 31,800 yaba tablets
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a police officer with 31,800 yaba tablets in Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
On information, a Rab team halted a motorcycle ridden by Assistant Sub-inspector Abul Bashar on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Jorarganj area, said Safayat Jamil Fahim, commander of Feni camp of Rab-7.
After searching the motorbike, they found a total of 31,800 yaba pills, he said.
During interrogation, ASI Bashar, posted in Detective Branch of Brahmmanbaria District Police, admitted that he was transporting the contraband drug from Cox's Bazar to Narayanganj, he added.
Meanwhile, Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested five alleged drug peddlers, including a boy, with 7,300 yaba pills in the port city in the last two days, said Shamim Ahamed, deputy director of DNC (Chittagong Zone).
The 12-year-old was arrested with 2,500 pills in Fishery Ghat area yesterday.
Kabir Hossain, 60, was held with 2,100 pills in Mariners' Road area and Rafikul Islam, 43, with 200 pieces in Pologround area on Friday night.
Imam Hossain, 22, and Rabbi Hossain Afridi, 18, were arrested with 2,500 tablets at Choumuhani intersection the same night.
