Payra Port administrative building opens
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan inaugurated a five-storey administrative building of Payra Port at a programme on its premises in Patuakhali yesterday.
The building that was built at a cost of around Tk 12 crore has 5,800 square feet space on its each floor, said the authorities.
As the chief guest, the minister also opened a training programme there for those whose land were acquisitioned for the sea port.
In the three-month training on computer, construction work and motor driving, 150 participants are taking part, said M Rafiul Hasan, member (admin and finance) of the port authorities.
Each of the participants will be given Tk 300 daily as allowance, he added.
At least 3,500 individuals will be brought under 35 categories of job-oriented training in phases in next three years, he said.
Patuakhali-4 lawmaker Mahbubur Rahman Talukder and Deputy Commissioner Masumur Rahman were present as special guests at the programme with Shipping Ministry Secretary Abdus Samad in the chair.
Port Chairman M Jahangir Alam, Superintendent of Police Moinul Islam, Kalapara upazila Chairman Abdul Motaleb Talukder, UNO Tanveer Rahman, Kalapara municipality Mayor Bipul Hawlader, Kuakata municipality Mayor Abdul Bareq Molla were also present on the occasion.
A 400-foot long, 250-foot wide and 20-foot high warehouse on 1 lakh square feet area was built at the port at a cost of Tk 20.97 crore, said the port authorities.
Construction of a jetty at a cost of Tk 21.38 crore is going, port sources said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid a foundation stone on November 19, 2013 and the port will be ready for operation by 2023, they said.
