JP 2nd largest political party now: Ershad
Claiming Jatiya Party (JP) to be the second largest political party in the country, its Chairman HM Ershad announced the launch of his election campaign yesterday.
Speaking to journalists at Rangpur Circuit House, he said, “I am starting the campaign from my birthplace to contest the national election from Rangpur-3 constituency.”
He said he has always been elected from this constituency. “I can proudly say that the people love me till my death.”
Ershad came to Rangpur on a five-day Eid vacation.
Terming BNP the third largest political party, he said if the party of Khaledia Zia takes part in the upcoming election, JP will contest as an ally of the Awami League, which he says is the largest political party in the country.
If BNP does not, JP will run for all 300 seats. He hoped that people will elect his party in all the 21 seats (except Pirganj) in Rangpur.
About the recent road safety movement, the special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “I demanded release of the arrested students, but they were not freed. I think the government would not let any movement take shape.”
Later, Ershad visited different places in Rangpur city as part of his election campaign and urged people to vote for “plough”, the electoral symbol of JP.
