Ivy Rahman's 14th death anniversary observed

The 14th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman, former president of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League and wife of late President Zillur Rahman, was observed yesterday in a befitting manner.

To mark the day, different political and socio-cultural organisations, including Awami League, its associate bodies and other likeminded organisations arranged elaborate programmes.

The programmes included placing wreaths and offering fateha at her grave in Banani graveyard, arranging milad mahfil and special prayers, and holding discussions in Dhaka and elsewhere.

Central leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies paid tributes to Ivy by placing wreaths at her grave in the morning.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Md Abdus Sobur were present on the occasion, among others.

A milad and doa mahfil was held at the Ivy Concord Tower at Gulshan-2 for late President Zillur Rahman, Ivy Rahman and August 21 grenade attack victims.

Apart from family members and relatives of the deceased, leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies attended the event.

Besides, separate milad and Qurankhwani was held at Ivy's ancestral home and in-laws residence at Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj. A discussion was held at Bhairab upazila Awami League office.

Ivy Rahman received grievous injuries during a grisly grenade attack on an AL rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on August 21, 2004. She succumbed to her injuries on August 24.
