Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia today said they have taken a month-long campaign to bring discipline in the traffic management system.

“Route permit of the vehicles would be cancelled in case of traffic rule violation and appointing drivers on contract basis,” he told a press conference at DMP Media centre at Mintoo Road here to announce DMP’s month-long special traffic management initiative from tomorrow.

As part of some measures of bringing discipline in traffic management system, the DMP has decided to take off human haulers from the city streets under its jurisdiction as they have no road permits, he said.

No buses will also be allowed to load and unload passengers anywhere without the designated 121 bus stoppages,” the DMP boss said, adding that the buses have to keep their doors shut until reaching the next bus stoppage.

Asaduzzaman requested the owners of refueling stations not to sell fuel to motorcyclists having no safety helmets with them.

Referring to traffic mismanagement on the roads and highways, he said “It will take time to bring complete discipline in the traffic management as the current situation has not been created in a day rather it is the culmination of the long time mismanagement.”

The DMP chief requested city dwellers to use zebra crossings, footbridges and underpasses while crossing the roads to avoid accidents.
