BNP has to join polls under present govt
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday said BNP has to join the forthcoming general election to be conducted by the Election Commission (EC) keeping the incumbent government in office as there would be no caretaker administration during the polls.
“No caretaker government would come and the election would be conducted by the EC as per constitution. BNP has to join the polls under current government,” he said.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by Awami League at Guli High School in Dhania Union of Bhola Sadar upazila, marking National Mourning Day.
If BNP does not join polls this time, the party will have no existence, he said. Now the party leaders are realising that they would not get any positive result by carrying out anarchy across the country, he added.
Tofail urged people to cast their vote for “boat”. He said a total of Tk 590 crore would be allocated for those affected by river erosion at Dhania and Shibpur unions.
Dhania union AL President Harun-or-Rashid presided over the event while Bhola Sadar upazila Chairman Mosharef Hossain, Sadar upazila AL General Secretary Nazrul Islam Goldar and Dhania Union Chairman Emdad Hossain Kabir also spoke.
