The biennial election to Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry for 2013-14 was held in the port city yesterday.
Three directors from trade category were elected uncontested while 40 candidates contested for the 24-member director board, said Jamal Uddin Ahmed, chairman of the election board.
Out of the 6,024 listed voters, nearly 70 percent exercised their right to elect the directors from different membership categories: ordinary (12), associate (6), town (3) and trade (3).
For the first time, proxy voters or alternate nominees were not allowed to cast their votes for principal voters at the polls.
Incumbent President of the chamber Morshed Murad Ibrahim and former first vice-president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association Abdus Salam were leading one panel, while the incumbent Senior Vice President Mahbubul Alam and Chairman of NCC Bank Nurun Newaz Selim were leading the other.
