Charges to be filed against Mir Kashem Ali on April 24
Prosecution will submit formal charges to International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) against war crimes suspect Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali on April 24, said prosecution lawyer Rana Dasgupta at a press conference in the Circuit House's conference hall in Chittagong city yesterday.
Nurul Islam, assistant superintendent of police, and also investigation officer (IO) of the tribunal, was present at the conference.
The IO will submit the final report to the prosecution soon. The prosecution will then submit it to ICT-1 on April 24, the date fixed by the tribunal, said Rana Dasgupta.
Earlier on March 22, a five-member probe team, led by IO Nurul, arrived in Chittagong to finalise the investigation report on Mir Kashem Ali, and to collect evidence regarding the war crimes allegations brought against BNP leader Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury.
During the investigation, the team inspected scenes of crimes, including spots used as torture cells, committed by the accused Jamaat leader during the Liberation War in 1971. The team also talked to witnesses and collected their statements in this regard, he said.
