Charges against Faridpur BNP leader placed
A prosecutor of the Dhaka tribunal dealing with the crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War in 1971 on Sunday placed formal charges against Faridpur-based BNP leader MA Zahid Hossain Khokon.
Ten war crimes allegations including genocide, murder, and forced conversion to Islam was placed against Khokon, also the vice president of BNP’s Nagarkanda upazila unit in Faridpur.
He went into hiding after taking oath as the Nagarkanda upazila municipality chairman in 2011.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) started investigation against him on April 16 in 2012.
Prosecutor Muklesur Rahman Badal placed the charges through the registrar office of the International Crimes Tribunal.
The prosecutor also urged the tribunal to issue an arrest warrant against Khokon, also the incumbent chairman of Nagarkanda upazila municipality.
Investigators, earlier on May 29, informed that they had found evidence that Khokon was involved in 13 incidents of war crimes.
The probe body came with the findings after completing its investigation against the BNP leader.
