Celebrating World Music Day
Band “Abol Tabol” performs at the programme.
To mark World Music Day, a two-day (June 27 -28) musical programme was held at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in Dhanmondi.
Titled “Fête de la Musique 2013”, AFD, in tandem with the Embassy of France in Bangladesh organised the programme. Deputy director of AFD Jérôme Charbonneau inaugurated the event as chief guest.
The students of Ecole de Musique of AFD enthralled the audience with their numbers on the piano and western classical guitar on the inaugural day. A number of groups like The Bridge, Lamppost, Cardboard, Benziin, Warda with Friends, Monoshoroni and Abol Tabol performed on the closing day of the event.
The language students and teachers of AFD also enchanted the audience with musical performances in different languages at the programme.
Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is a music festival that began in France in 1982. The idea of the event was conceived by French Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1981. Since then June 21 has been celebrated every year in over 100 countries in Europe and the rest of the world as World Music Day. The concept of “Fête de la Musique” is an open air and non-stop musical performances, to help make music accessible to the public.
The event gives an opportunity to communicate and share a special bond through music. The Music Day allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere.
