CCS show up late, match cancelled
Khelaghar SKS finally won a match in the Dhaka Premier League beating this season's surprise package Prime Doleshwar while a late arrival drama saw the cancellation of the match between Brothers Union and Cricket Coaching School (CCS) yesterday.
CCS reached the Fatullah Cricket Stadium more than half an hour later than schedule and as a result Brothers refused to respond to match referee Samiur Rahman's desire for starting the match half an hour later.
"CCS came to the ground at 8.50am as they were stuck at Jatrabari for sometime following an incident on the road. And it's clearly mentioned in the bylaws that for any accidental occurrence you can extend the time by half an hour. I talked with both captains and they agreed to play the match, but suddenly Brothers captain refused to come to the field for toss," Samiur told The Daily Star.
"I have submitted my report to CCDM [Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis] who will take the decision regarding the issue," he added.
But the problem was the match referee himself was also late as he arrived at the venue on the CCS team bus and for that he might face a punishment from the authority.
When his attention was drawn regarding the matter, Samiur defended himself by saying: "Yes, I was also late due to the [Jatrabari] incident. But there was some misunderstanding about me arriving on the CCS team bus. I only got on that bus from near the stadium due to waterlogging."
CCDM chairman Jalal Yunus said that they would decide the fate of the match after investigating the whole episode, match referee and the umpires' reports.
It may be mentioned here that for a same kind of incident Surjo Torun, who failed to show up on time for their match against Kalabagan Krira Chakra at BKSP last season, were scrapped from the top-flight league.
Away at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra, Nizamuddin Ripon hit 39 and then returned figures of five-for to give Khelaghar their first win in their seventh match in the league so far. Prime Doleshwar stayed on eight points.
In the day's other match, an unbeaten 85 helped Kalabagan Cricket Academy to secure a 52-run victory over Kalabagan Krira Chakra, who suffered their fourth defeat. Academy improved their tally to nine points.
