Four sent to jail

A court in the district sent four youths to jail yesterday on charge of gang-rape of a teenage girl on August 26.

Judge of Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court Md Jamal Hossain gave the order after the police produced them before it.

The youths were arrested early yesterday in the district town for their alleged involvement in gang-rape of the teenage girl.

The arrestees are Md Miraj, 17, son of Hanif Molla, Arman, 20, son of Sanu Sikder of Shimulbagh area, Hasib, 20, son of Ashraf Ali of Kalatala area, and Maruf Rahman Tushar, 19, of PTI road in the district town.

Patuakhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khondakar Mostafizur Rahman said they would take action over the matter after proper investigation.

The 17-year-old victim filed a case accusing the four with Patuakhali Police Station in this regard on Wednesday, the OC said.

He said the victim had an affair with Miraj for several months. Miraj called the girl out of her house promising to marry her on August 26 and took her to a residence at PTI Road where he raped her. Later, three of his friends also raped her by turns.

The youths kept the girl in different places in the town. At one stage, the victim managed to flee and went to the police station to file the case.

Police sent the victim to Patuakhali General Hospital for medical test, the OC said.
