A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent two BNP leaders to jail after rejecting their bail petition in a case filed for “torching vehicles, assaulting police and preventing them from discharging their duties at the city's Nayapaltan on March 11".
The leaders are Barkatullah Bulu and Salahuddin Ahmed, the joint secretaries general of the main opposition, BNP.
Judge (in-charge) Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge passed the order following a bail petition jointly submitted by their lawyers.
Police arrested Salauddin at the Gulshan residence of BNP Vice-Chairman Morshed Ali Khan on April 9.
He was released from the jail in four cases filed against him over vandalism and assaulting police.
But Detective Branch of police arrested him again at the jail gate on May 16 in connection with the case.
Bulu was arrested on May 15 after he came out of the party headquarters in the capital’s Nayapaltan.
