Book on 1971 genocide launched in London

The book "Beyond Denial: The Evidence of a Genocide" termed as a disturbing book about the greatest mass-murder of civilians since the Nazi holocaust was launched at Washington Mayfair Hotel in London on Wednesday.
The book's author Dr MA Hasan and editor Tom Deegan spoke at the event which was chaired by Dr William Crawley of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies
Published by New Millennium, the book investigates the scale and nature of the atrocities carried out by the Pakistani military. It is based on Dr Hasan and his War Crimes Fact Finding Commission's survey from 1999 to 2008.
Tom Deegan, who wrote the foreword, stressed the importance of considering evidence from both sides of the conflict, in which horrific violence was committed by both the Pakistani military and Biharis in their suppression of Bangalee nationalism. "This is not an anti-Pakistan book," insisted Deegan, "but rather an anti-genocide book."
Dr Hasan spoke of how he was not quite 22 years old when he joined the Bangladesh freedom movement and personally witnessed acts of appalling violence by the Pakistani military in what was, he said, quite simply a pre-planned genocide.  He also addressed the ongoing war crimes trials in Bangladesh, emphasising that their aim is not revenge but reconciliation.
