BNP plans rally Wednesday despite ban
The main opposition BNP has announced that it would hold a rally in the capital on Wednesday to press home their demands which include restoration of the caretaker government system.
The call came despite a government ban on rallies or processions across the country.
The party plans to hold the rally in front of its Nayapaltan headquarters at Nayapaltan in the capital at 3:00pm.
The party has already asked the Dhaka Metropolitan Police authorities seeking permission for the rally, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser, told The Daily Star on Monday.
The other demands are: unconditional release of the party's leaders and withdrawal of all cases filed against them, and 'removal' of the incumbent government, Dudu, also the spokesman of the party, told The Daily Star.
The government, on May 19, banned all kinds of demonstrations, including meetings and processions, across the country for one month.
The leaders of BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance will also sit Monday afternoon to decide the next course of action.
