BNP leader's tea party for journos foiled
At least 10, including three journalists, were injured and 20 motorbikes damaged as BCL and Jubo League men attacked Kuakata Press Club while a local BNP leader was hosting a tea party yesterday.
The BCL cadres Bachchu Sheikh and Elias led the attack and confined journalists and locals to the club. They also ransacked at least 10 business establishments in Kuakata beach and nearby Alipur Bazar.
The incident occurred when Kalapara upazila BNP President ABM Mosharraf Hossain was holding a meeting with local journalists at a tea party at about 6.30pm.
The ruling party men fled the area after the pro-BNP JCD workers chased them, journalists said.
Three Jubo League workers were injured in the JCD attack who were undergoing treatment at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Kuakata Awami League President Abdul Barek Mollah said.
Later, police rescued journalists from the club at about 7.30pm.
