BNP leader Salauddin gets bail

The High Court on Sunday granted bail for six months to BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed in two separate cases filed for vandalising cars, arsons and preventing police from discharging duties.

There is no legal bar to his release from jail now, Salauddin's lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain told The Daily Star.

Police filed the cases with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Tejgaon police stations on December 9 last year and February 12 this year against few hundred opposition leaders and workers on charges of vandalising and torching vehicles and preventing police from discharging duties during their agitation programmes in the capital.

Salauddin was arrested in the cases on May 16.

On Sunday, the HC granted bail to Salauddin after hearing two separate petitions.

Meanwhile, the same court directed the police not to harass or arrest another BNP leader Amanullah Aman if he is not accused in any specific case.

Aman filed a writ petition saying that he was apprehending that he might be arrested, since he was shown arrested on May 21 in a case filed with Paltan Police Station on March 6.
