BNP hartal in Khulna tomorrow
Khulna district BNP yesterday called a dawn-to-dusk hartal tomorrow in the district, excluding the city, protesting the death of a party activist and a Jubo Dal activist.
They also announced a three-day mourning programme for Gazi Nasir Uddin Sumon, vice president of Jubo Dal Dumuria upazila sadar union unit, and Bulu Molla, organising secretary of BNP Modhupur union unit. The programme includes a protest rally and procession on Saturday and hoisting of black flags at all BNP offices in the district for three days.
Police said Sumon was beaten up by hartal protestors on Thursday and was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Sumon succumbed to his injuries in Bhanga upazila yesterday while he was being taken to Dhaka for better treatment.
Anti-hartal activists attacked Sumon when he and other hartal supporters were vandalising some shops in Dumuria Bazar during the hartal enforced by BNP-led 18-party alliance, said Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station.
Meanwhile, Bulu Molla was allegedly lynched by ruling party activists on Wednesday night.
