Shibir calls hartal in 3 districts for Sunday
Islami Chhatra Shibir, a pro-Jamaat body, will enforce a six-hour hartal (shutdown) in Noakhali, Feni and Laxmipur on Sunday protesting the arrest of its three leaders.
On the other hand, BNP and its associate bodies have called an eight-hour hartal in Rangpur for Monday demanding release of its seven leaders.
Our Noakhali correspondent reports, Shibir called the hartal protesting the arrests of former president of its central committee Dr Fakhruddin Manik, office secretary Atikur Rahman and foreign affairs secretary Mohsinul Kabir.
Neyamat Ullah Shaker, president of the Noakhali district unit of Shibir, confirmed it to the correspondent over telephone.
In Rangpur, police arrested seven leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and Swechchhabesok Dal along with a cocktail on May 19.
BNP, JCD, Jubo Dal and Swechchhabesok Dal decided to enforce the hartal demanding immediate release of the seven leaders.
Md Mozaffar Hossain, convener of district BNP, announced the hartal at a press briefing at the party office at Grand Hotel intersection in the town on Saturday, reports our Rangpur correspondent.
Mahfuzun Nabi, vice-president of JCD central unit; Mahir Alam Nayan, vice-president of JCD district unit, Rois Ahmed, president of Jubo Dal Rangpur district unit, and its secretary general Anisur Rahman are among the detainees.
BNP leader Mozaffar Hossain on Saturday also announced to hold demonstrations in all the upazilas of the district on Sunday.
