BNP bodies in Rangpur call off hartal
Three associate bodies of BNP withdrew today's daylong hartal in the district their seven leaders got bail from the High Court yesterday.
On Jun 16, Jubo Dal, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Swechchhasebok Dal called the shutdown, demanding immediate release of the leaders.
The decision to withdraw the hartal was announced at a press conference in the city yesterday.
Among others, Nazmul Alam Nazu, acting president of Rangpur district unit Jubo Dal, Moniruzzaman Hizbul, general sectary of district unit JCD and Abdus Salam, convener of unit Swechchhasebok Dal, were present.
Earlier, police arrested the leaders along with a cocktail on May 19, a day before a hartal enforced by the associate bodies of the main opposition party in the division, demanding unconditional release of Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, joint secretary general of BNP and Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, president of Jubo Dal central committee.
The arrestees include Roich Ahmed, president of district unit Jubo Dal, its central committee assistant general secretary Mahfuz-un-Nabi Don, vice president of JCD central committee Anisur Rahman Laku, general secretary of Jubo Dal Rangpur district unit and assistant organising secretary of its central committee, Zahir Alam Nayan, president of JCD district unit.
On June 3, the organisations also observed an eight-hour hartal on the same ground.
