BNP blocks road in Ctg after leader sent to jail
BNP activists blocked Dhaka-Chittagong highway after a Chittagong court yesterday sent a party leader to jail as he surrendered before it in an arson case.
Aslam Chowdhury is general secretary of BNP Chittagong district (north) unit.
The activists also vandalised vehicles in Sitakunda, Barabkunda and Barawliya areas around 1:00pm, said Sitakunda police Officer-in-Charge Samiul Alam.
Police cleared the road half an hour after a chase and counter chase with the protesters took place in the areas, said the OC.
The case was filed against 43 BNP activists, including Aslam with the police on charge of torching and vandalising vehicles in Sitakunda upazila after a Dhaka court sent some top party leaders to jail on April 7 on different charges.
