BNP begins collection of warm clothes for cold-hit people
Ruling BNP yesterday began collection of warm clothes for distribution among the cold-stricken poor people and urged all to come forward in aid of the distressed humanity.
On the first day of the collection, a good number of BNP leaders and workers donated warm clothes and cash money.
BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and first Joint Secretary General Tareque Rahman jointly received the donations at the party central office at Naya Paltan in the afternoon.
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Redwan Ahmed donated 3000 pieces of sweaters from his own Capital Sweater Factory. Keshabpur thana BNP President, who owns AMC Sweaters, donated 2000 pieces of sweaters, Lutfar Rahman of Azad Group donated 200 pieces of sweaters and Azim Group of Fazlul Azam MP donated 1000 pieces of sweaters.
Besides, former minister and Shariatpur district BNP President TM Giasuddin, independent MP Hemayetullah Auranga, BNP leaders Khairul Kabir Khokon, MA Malek, JASAS leader Mahfuzur Rahman Humayun, Jubo Dal leaders Emdad Khan, Mizan Chowdhury, Akbar Siraji, Didarul Alam of Zia Mancha and others donated cash money.
Staff of the BNP central office also contributed their one-day salary in aid of the cold-victims.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan said BNP is a people's party and it had always stood beside the people at the time of their happiness and sorrow.
He said this year's winter is a natural calamity and BNP stood beside the people to mitigate their sufferings by giving them warm clothes.
He said the party would start distribution of the warm clothes ahead of the birth anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman on January 19.
Bhuiyan urged party leaders, activists and affluent section of the society to donate warm clothes to help the cold-stricken people.
Tareque Rahman said instruction has been given to party's leaders and activists across the country, especially of massive cold-hit areas, to collect and distribute warm clothes to the poor.
"We are trying our best to help the poor and distressed and it is also the responsibility of those who have the capability to come forward in aid of the cold-hit people," he added.
Party sources said the drive to collect warm clothes would continue for several days and the interested people have been urged to donate clothes at the party central office.
