Blogger Asif sent to jail again

A Dhaka court on Monday cancelled bail of blogger Asif Mohiuddin and sent him to jail in a case filed against him for making “derogatory comments about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)” in social media.

Judge (in-charge) Md Akharuzzaman of the Court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge passed the order as his one-month bail period expired on Sunday.

The judge said Asif was granted bail on June 27 on health ground. "But there was no new ground to extend his bail," the judge said after hearing a petition filed by Asif seeking extension of his bail period.

On June 27, the court fixed August 25 for hearing on charge framing against Asif and three others bloggers -- Subrata Adhikari Shuvo, Russel Parvez and Mashiur Rahman Biplob -- in the case.
