Blogger Asif gets bail

A Dhaka court yesterday granted one-month bail to blogger Asif Mohiuddin in a case for making “derogatory comments about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)” in social media.
Asif, who has been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital since his arrest on April 3, got the bail on health grounds.
The court granted the bail after his lawyer submitted a bail petition yesterday.
Earlier on July 29, acting judge of the same court sent Asif, 28, an ex-student of a private university, to jail after cancelling his bail saying that he violated the terms and conditions of the court order.
He was first granted bail for June 27 to July 25 on health grounds.
Hearing on charge framing against Asif will be held on August 25.
On April 17, the Detective Branch of police submitted probe reports accusing him of hurting religious sentiments via social media.
