BDRCS sends warm clothes, food to cold hit districts
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has rushed some 25,000 blankets and other warm clothes including 500 pieces of shwals for urgent distribution to northern and other districts as a severe cold wave sweeps the country, a BDRCS press release said yesterday, reports BSS.
It said the Red Crescent also sent 452 tonnes of rice and 90.4 tonnes of pulses to 39 districts and the volunteers of the organisation were distributing the relief materials.
A government announcement on Thursday said over 61,000 blankets were sent to northern districts and Chittagong Hill Tracts from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund and Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management for distribution among the chill-hit people.
In addition to 61,438 blankets, 27,985 sarees, 2,500 lungis, 6,200 baby clothes, 224 woolen shawls, 20,276 shirts, 9,900 readymade garments, 4,214 jackets, 2,020 blouses, 5,200 sweaters and 1,21,148-metre cloth were also allocated from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
The Relief Ministry's dispatch contained 80 cartons of readymade garments and 272 cartons of second-hand clothes.
