BDB to take part in polls jointly with BNP: Mahi
With the next general election looming, Bikolpodhara Bangladesh (BDB) is going to form an alliance with the main opposition BNP to contest the polls.
“We have decided to forge an alliance with BNP, but the mechanism for that is yet to be finalised,” BDB Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury told the news agency Friday night.
The decision of being a political partner of BNP was taken at an extended meeting of the party at BDB President Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury's Baridhara residence in the capital, he said.
“Our extended meeting is yet to conclude. We will elaborately discuss the possible process of making an alliance with the BNP at the meeting,” Mahi said.
Although there are different opinions of the party leaders about being a partner of the 18-party alliance, the decision is almost final that the BDB will be with BNP to participate in the next polls, whatever the process may be, he added.
Mahi said they would formally announce the decision in this regard within a few days.
The BDB joint secretary general said they would also launch a strong movement against the government to establish democratic rights of the people.
Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, a close associate of BNP's founder late president Ziaur Rahman, and its founding secretary general, floated Bikolpodhara Bangladesh with some mid-ranking BNP leaders after quitting BNP in 2004.
