BD U-19s fight on Day 2
Nazmul Hossain and Mehedy Hasan struck patient half centuries as Bangladesh Under-19 stayed in contention against their Sri Lankan counterparts on the second day of the first four-dayer at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
The home team finished the second day's play on 176 for three in reply to the tourists' mammoth first innings total of 422. Opener Nazmul occupied the crease for nearly three hours to make 55 while Hasan remained unbeaten on 56 during his two-hour stay.
Earlier, leg-spinner Jubair Hossain took two more wickets on the second day to return with figures of five for 146 but the visitors piled up a huge total after resuming the day on 331 for five, thanks to Minod Bhanuka who made 114 off 149 balls with 12 fours and four sixes after resuming the day on 82.
Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman provided the first breakthrough on the second day, removing Roshan Anuruddha off the very first ball while Rahatul Ferdous took two wickets.
