BCL men attacked in Sylhet
Two activists of a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Sylhet MC College unit were stabbed allegedly by members of a rival faction while another activist was attacked allegedly by Islami Chhatra Shibir men on Sunday evening.
BCL activists Maruf and Saimon, supporters of acting president of BCL, MC College unit Hiron Mahmud Nipu, came under attack in Tilagarh area of the city. The attackers stabbed the two and fled the scene.
Maruf and Saimon claimed that supporters of Pankaj Purkayostha, former president of the BCL unit, attacked them.
Pankaj Purkayostha, who is now expelled from the organisation, could not be reached over phone. However, Rahul Talukder, president of the organisation, said he heard about the incident and will investigate it.
Meanwhile, another BCL activist, Mostafizur Rob, was stabbed indiscriminately by four unidentified men in the city's Sobhanighat area. He received treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Rob alleged that he was attacked in the presence of Yasin, former president of MC College unit of Shibir.
However, Nazrul Islam, president of MC College unit of Shibir, denied the allegation and said it was an internal clash of BCL. Md Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shahporan Police Station, said when police reached the spot all the attackers had fled the scene.
