BCB serves notice on Nadir

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday served a show cause notice on truant umpire Nadir Shah on Wednesday.

Nadir, one of the two umpires to conduct the first-class match between Bangladesh and the visiting MCC, failed to turn up at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on time on the second day of the three-day match.

His eleventh hour absence forced the panic-stricken organisers to send for reserve umpire Ashiqur Rahman along with Englishman John Hampshire to start the match on schedule.

" We have served him a show cause notice today", said the BCB joint-secretary Mahmudul Haq to the Daily Star last evening. The BCB official also said that they are likely to take stern action if Nadir fails to come up with an acceptable reason.

Meanwhile, match referee Rafiqul Alam said that he has finally received a letter from Nadir yesterday.

" He submitted a letter today. He said that he came down with diarrhea on Wednesday. I have sent it to the BCB", said Rafique.
