Barisal pass rate goes up

Despite its overall decline across the country, the pass rate in this year's HSC exams under the Barisal education board rose 4.71 percentage points to 71.69 percent from 66.98 percent in 2012.
The number of GPA-5 achievers, however, fell to 1,853 this year from 1,895 last year.
Girls outperformed boys. A total of 72.82 percent of girls passed with 960 of them achieving GPA-5, while the pass rate among boys stands at 70.55 percent with 893 GPA-5 securers.
Barisal Cadet College emerged as the best institution with all 46 examinees achieving GPA-5. It is followed by Barisal Amrita Lal Dey College, Barisal Govt Women's College, Barisal Government Syed Hatem Ali College, and Mahilara College, Gournadi.
A total of 52,173 students sat the exams.
