Train fares might require re-fixing to adjust fuel price hike: Minister
Train fares might require re-fixing to adjust the fuel price hike but no decision has been made in this regard as of yet, Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said today (August 7, 2022).
There is a huge gap between train and bus fares, which will create huge pressure on trains, the minister said.
"So, we may have to adjust the train fares. But we did not take any decision to hike the fares yet," he told The Daily Star today.
Bangladesh Railway is a state-run agency, he said adding so they have to take the prime minister's directive if they want to hike train fares.
When asked if they are going to seek for the PM's instruction, he said, "We have not decided on that yet."
