Shimulia, Majhikandi ferry routes closed today over Padma Bridge inauguration
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) has closed the ferry crossing on the Shimulia waterway in Munshiganj and Majhikandi in Shariatpur on the occasion of the Padma Bridge inauguration.
The ferry was closed on last evening (June 24, 2022) for security reasons, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Passenger crossings will be closed throughout the day today. The ferry service on the Shimulia-Majhikandi waterway is likely to start tomorrow morning (June 26, 2022).
BIWTC's Shimulia Ghat AGM Shafiqul Islam confirmed the development.
He said the ferry service was being stopped for the day for the inauguration ceremony due to security reasons. However, the ferry services will resume from tomorrow.
BiWTC's Shimuliaghat Manager (trade) Jamal Hossain said the Shimulia-Majhikandi ferry was closed at night for a few days due to strong currents in the Padma. At that time, the ferry service was open only during the day.
And due to the strong current in the Padma river, the Shimulia-Banglabazar ferry services were closed off for a long time. The ferry service will run normally on the Shimulia-Majhikandi waterway after the inauguration of the bridge.
