The rail communication of Dhaka with the southern and northern parts of the country has been restored from around 10pm after a halt of six hours.

This afternoon, communication halted after a Rajshahi bound freight train derailed at Vangura Boral Bridge Rail Station in Pabna.

10 bogies of the train separated from the engine that caused the disruption at 4:30 pm, reported our Pabna correspondent quoting Md Shipon Ali, an assistant engineer of Pakshi Railway division.

"The train movement remained halted as it was a single rail track. Due to the disruption, at least four passenger trains remained stuck at different stations," added Shipon.

"A rescue train reached the spot at 6:00 pm and started working to restore the train service," he also said.

"There might have been some technical faults with the train. Few damages were found in the compartments. We are investigating the reason behind the derailment," Md Abdur Rahim, Pakshi Railway divisional engineer told The Daily Star.

"We have already formed an inquiry committee to investigate the reason behind the accident," he added.
