Fining railways minister’s relatives: TTE Shafiqul returns to work after suspension withdrawn
A travelling ticket examiner (TTE), who was suspended for fining three passengers while travelling without tickets after introducing themselves as the relatives of the railways minister, returned to his workplace today after the suspension order was withdrawn.
Md Shafiqul Islam, a TTE from the Pakshey Division of Bangladesh Railways, joined his work at Ishwardi Junction TT Headquarters this morning, reports our Pabna correspondent.
According to railway sources, the TTE was suspended on May 5 for "misbehaving with three passengers".
However, it later was revealed that the three passengers were indeed relatives of Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, and were travelling without tickets.
The minister also admitted that his wife lodged complaint against the TTE for fining the relatives.
Shafiqul was later suspended after the complaint.
However, after the incident unfolded in news media, the railway authorities decided to withdraw the suspension order. The order was withdrawn yesterday.
TTE Shafiqul has been attached to Ishwardi Railway Station after returning to workplace.
"The authorities today accepted my application to return to work. I was informed that I may be sent on trains from tomorrow," Shafiqul told The Daily Star.
He expressed satisfaction to be able to return to duty.
Meanwhile, the three-member probe committee formed to investigate the incident has recorded statements of TTE Shafiqul, railways minister's relatives, passengers, and other witnesses.
The probe committee has been working to submit the probe report on time, said Md Sajedul Islam, deputy transport officer of Bangladesh Railways in Pakshey Division who is leading the investigation.
